Use of GPS and Location Services:
Bleachr offers a unique, live-at-the-event-only-experince and only allows people who are at the event to participate in the event’s fan stream. Because of our unique location based fan experience, Bleachr requires persistent use of real-time location updates to verify that you are at, or approaching the event.
Background gps is used outside of an event to provide certain event based utility services as a user gets within the general vicinity of an event stadium — such as parking availability indicators.

Fine Grain GPS:
When a user is in close proximity of a stadium at which there is an event, Bleachr then activates fine grain gps to determine when a user enters the stadium. After entering and being within the location for a short time, Bleachr turns off the fine grain gps and runs background location services in a way to minimize battery usage. The use of fine grain gps as a user enters the stadium places you at the right event and keeps you connected to the right event’s stream during the entire time you are at the event.

Effect on Battery:
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life
